About the Momentum PCB

Momentum is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by rjhsun, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 30.5 × 67.3 mm, with 25 components from 15 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Raspberry_Pi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the SN74LV1T34DBVR, PAM8302AAD, MPU-6050_Module and MT3608_Module. By type, the board carries 9 capacitors, 9 resistors, 3 modules, 2 ICs and 1 jumper.

It belongs with the audio and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

An elegant circuit board for a more civilized age

This Ditch Day stack featured custom lightsabers with WS2812 LED lighting and motion-reactive sound effects. This repository contains the hardware and firmware used in the lightsabers.

Fabrication output is generated using KiKit, targeting the JLCPCB assembly service. It is recommended to order panels to lower costs; 10 panels of 4 were fabricated for Ditch Day with a target of 20 production units.

Momentum: common questions

What microcontroller does the Momentum use?

The Momentum is built around the Raspberry_Pi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Momentum PCB?

The Momentum measures 30.5 × 67.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Momentum?

25 components, from 15 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Momentum design files?

From the rjhsun/momentum-v1 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Momentum design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with rjhsun. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Momentum without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
