About the ControlStandShield PCB

ControlStandShield is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by RobertPHeller, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 68.6 × 53.3 mm, with 40 components from 21 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_1pin, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 74LS47 and MCP23008. By type, the board carries 19 resistors, 13 connectors, 4 relays, 2 ICs and 2 capacitors.

From the project

Model 2nd Generation Diesel Locomotive Control Stand

This is a model diesel locomotive control stand (more or less typical of a 2nd generation diesel locomotive).

2ndGenLocoControlStand.dxf, 2ndGenLocoControlStand.gcad, and 2ndGenLocoControlStand.tcl relate to the 3D model of the front panel (based on a Hammond Manucafturing RL6685 enclosure).

The ESP32ControlStand directory contains the ESP32 (TTGO-T1) based design, the electronics are in KiCad form (Version: 2013.06.11). The ESP32ControlStand/ESP32ControlStand_Node directory contains the OpenMRN code (C++, Arduino style using the OpenMRNLite library).

ControlStandShield: common questions

What microcontroller does the ControlStandShield use?

The ControlStandShield is built around the Arduino_1pin, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the ControlStandShield PCB?

The ControlStandShield measures 68.6 × 53.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ControlStandShield?

40 components, from 21 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ControlStandShield design files?

From the RobertPHeller/2ndGenLocoControlStand repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ControlStandShield design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which RobertPHeller chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the ControlStandShield without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
