About the ESP32-S3-WROOM-ControlStand PCB

ESP32-S3-WROOM-ControlStand is an open source ESP32 PCB design by RobertPHeller, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 127 × 118.9 mm, with 84 components from 67 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the TC1263-3.3VOATR, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the USBLC6-2SC6, MCP73871, ESP32_S3_WROOM-1 and TCA8418. By type, the board carries 23 resistors, 20 switches, 15 connectors, 10 capacitors, 9 diodes and 5 ICs.

From the project

Model 2nd Generation Diesel Locomotive Control Stand

This is a model diesel locomotive control stand (more or less typical of a 2nd generation diesel locomotive).

2ndGenLocoControlStand.dxf, 2ndGenLocoControlStand.gcad, and 2ndGenLocoControlStand.tcl relate to the 3D model of the front panel (based on a Hammond Manucafturing RL6685 enclosure).

The ESP32ControlStand directory contains the ESP32 (TTGO-T1) based design, the electronics are in KiCad form (Version: 2013.06.11). The ESP32ControlStand/ESP32ControlStand_Node directory contains the OpenMRN code (C++, Arduino style using the OpenMRNLite library).

ESP32-S3-WROOM-ControlStand: common questions

What microcontroller does the ESP32-S3-WROOM-ControlStand use?

The ESP32-S3-WROOM-ControlStand is built around the TC1263-3.3VOATR, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the ESP32-S3-WROOM-ControlStand PCB?

The ESP32-S3-WROOM-ControlStand measures 127 × 118.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ESP32-S3-WROOM-ControlStand?

84 components, from 67 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ESP32-S3-WROOM-ControlStand design files?

From the RobertPHeller/2ndGenLocoControlStand repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ESP32-S3-WROOM-ControlStand design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which RobertPHeller chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the ESP32-S3-WROOM-ControlStand without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
