Open source potentiostat

About the Open source potentiostat PCB

Open source potentiostat is an open source NXP PCB design by samueloblenes, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license. It is a board, with 65 components from 27 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the TEENSY4.1, from the NXP family. Other key parts include the OPA134, TL072, MCP4725XXX-XCH, ADS1115IDGS and DG442XY. By type, the board carries 32 capacitors, 17 resistors, 12 ICs and 4 connectors.

From the project

A fully open-source, low-cost potentiostat for electrochemical characterization, built as an alternative to commercial instruments.

A fully open-source, low-cost potentiostat for electrochemical characterization, built as an alternative to commercial instruments.

This project is an attempt to build a fully open - hardware, firmware, and software - potentiostat capable of electrochemical characterization, at a fraction of the cost of a comercial instrument.

The instrument is built around a three-electrode electrochemical cell, using a potentiostatic control loop to maintain a precise potential and a switchable-gain transimpedance amplifier to measure the resulting current. A Teensy 4.1 handles low-level control and data…

Open source potentiostat: common questions

What microcontroller does the Open source potentiostat use?

The Open source potentiostat is built around the TEENSY4.1, from the NXP family.

How many components are on the Open source potentiostat?

65 components, from 27 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Open source potentiostat design files?

From the samueloblenes/open-source-potentiostat repository on GitHub, which has the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Open source potentiostat design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which samueloblenes chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Open source potentiostat without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug NXP firmware against it before you order a PCB.
