About the PotHoleDetection PCB

PotHoleDetection is an open source ESP32 PCB design by SanTiwari07, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 117 × 68 mm, with 10 components from 9 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-DevKitC_38pin, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the GY-521_MPU6050, ZS-042_DS3231 and GY-NEO6MV2. By type, the board carries 4 ICs, 2 capacitors, 2 resistors, 1 connector and 1 diode.

It belongs with the sensors, rf & radio and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

IPDS combines computer vision, multi-object tracking, and sensor fusion to detect, track, and assess pothole severity in real-time. The system uses a dual ESP32 architecture for optimal performance and reliability.

Carrier board for the IPDS sensor node: an ESP32-DevKitC (38-pin) plus plug-in MPU6050, DS3231 RTC and NEO-6M GPS breakout modules. Every module sits in a female header, so nothing is soldered to the modules themselves.

Board: 117 × 68 mm · 2 layers · 1.6 mm FR4 · GND pour on both sides · 4 × M3 mounting holes Made with: KiCad 10.0 (open with KiCad 10 or newer)

PotHoleDetection: common questions

What microcontroller does the PotHoleDetection use?

The PotHoleDetection is built around the ESP32-DevKitC_38pin, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the PotHoleDetection PCB?

The PotHoleDetection measures 117 × 68 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the PotHoleDetection?

10 components, from 9 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the PotHoleDetection design files?

From the SanTiwari07/PotHoleDetection repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the PotHoleDetection design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which SanTiwari07 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the PotHoleDetection without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
