About the PiZeroHat PCB
PiZeroHat is an open source ESP32 PCB design by scottmsilver, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 65 × 45 mm, with 9 components from 8 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N8, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the Raspberry Pi Zero v1.3. By type, the board carries 3 resistors, 2 connectors, 2 capacitors, 1 IC and 1 module.
It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

Controlling my procor-9.3x treadmill
This is the custom hardware for the Precor 9.31 project: a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W hat that sits inline on the treadmill's RS-485 serial cable between the console (Upper PCA) and motor controller (Lower PCA), so the Pi can monitor, proxy, and emulate the controller (see the protocol writeup in ../../HARDWARE.md).
- Dual RJ45 — From Console and To Motor (Amphenol 54602-x08 horizontal). Pin 6 is cut through the Pi (intercept + proxy/emulate); pin 3 is tapped passively. Pinout/GPIO mapping is in ../../HARDWARE.md and gpio.json. - D24V10F5 buck — Pololu 5 V 1 A step-down regulator off the…

PiZeroHat: common questions
What microcontroller does the PiZeroHat use?
The PiZeroHat is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N8, from the ESP32 family.
How big is the PiZeroHat PCB?
The PiZeroHat measures 65 × 45 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the PiZeroHat?
9 components, from 8 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the PiZeroHat design files?
From the scottmsilver/treddy repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the PiZeroHat design in my own project?
The repository has no license, so all rights stay with scottmsilver. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
Can I test firmware for the PiZeroHat without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
