From the project

Simple Dubsiren with RaspberryPi-pico

DUBSIRENrp2040 is a project designed to emulate a analog frequency generator for dub and reggae music. The result is the "DUB-IY**" dub siren.

Dub sirens are simple synthesizers without VCA (Voltage Controlled Amplifier) or VCF (Voltage Controlled Filter), but usually with a VCO (Voltage Controlled Oscillator) modulated by an LFO (Low Frequency Generator).

Such sirens are typically built with analog circuits. The challenge, however, was to optimize the parameter storage of digital solutions, simplify the electronics and to make it hackable.

Dubsiren rp2040: common questions

What microcontroller does the Dubsiren rp2040 use?

The Dubsiren rp2040 is built around the RaspberryPi-Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Dubsiren rp2040 PCB?

The Dubsiren rp2040 measures 138 × 83 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Dubsiren rp2040?

81 components, from 48 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Dubsiren rp2040 design files?

From the sdrum01/dubsiren_rp2040 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Dubsiren rp2040 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with sdrum01. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Dubsiren rp2040 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
