About the DeepThought PCB

DeepThought is an open source ESP32 PCB design by Sealflux, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 28 × 56 mm, with 4 components from 4 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-ESP32-C3-SMD, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the HS96L03W2C03. By type, the board carries 2 ICs, 1 battery holder and 1 switch.

It belongs with the displays & leds and power & battery designs in this gallery.

1. Order PCB from JLCPCB, uploading the gerbers.zip in the production folder. 2. 3D print the case using the Bottom and Top stl in the production folder. 3. Order parts using the BOM links above. 4. Solder the parts from the BOM links above to the PCB. 5. Connect the LiPo battery to the battery pads of the PCB(its at the top) 6. Flash the firmware using Arduino IDE in the firmware folder. 7. Assemble the case using super glue, sand down the edges first for better connection. 8. Use Deepthought by pressing the button!

DeepThought: common questions

What microcontroller does the DeepThought use?

The DeepThought is built around the XIAO-ESP32-C3-SMD, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the DeepThought PCB?

The DeepThought measures 28 × 56 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the DeepThought?

4 components, from 4 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the DeepThought design files?

From the Sealflux/DeepThought repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the DeepThought design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Sealflux chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the DeepThought without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
