About the Custom pico minimal PCB

Custom pico minimal is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by shabaz123, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 50 × 32 mm, with 34 components from 19 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the NCP1117-3.3_SOT223, W25Q128JVS and SRV05-4. By type, the board carries 16 capacitors, 8 resistors, 4 ICs, 2 connectors, 2 switches and 1 crystal.

This repository contains modified versions of the Raspberry Pi RP2040 Minimal design, that are better for production.

The modified versions are more suited to recent KiCad versions (for instance KiCad 10), and they improves things if the board is to be produced; for example, one version uses 0603 parts rather than 0402 for higher reliability, and another version uses 0402 parts but has a layout that will reduce the chance of 0402 parts rotating/sliding/tombstoning, compared to the original Raspberry Pi original design. The modified versions use USB C connectors rather than Micro USB, and…

Custom pico minimal: common questions

What microcontroller does the Custom pico minimal use?

The Custom pico minimal is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Custom pico minimal PCB?

The Custom pico minimal measures 50 × 32 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1 mm thick.

How many components are on the Custom pico minimal?

34 components, from 19 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Custom pico minimal design files?

From the shabaz123/rp2040_custom_minimal repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Custom pico minimal design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with shabaz123. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Custom pico minimal without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
