About the ESS Bottom PCB

ESS Bottom is an open source ESP32 PCB design by shrimp-18, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 70.8 × 51.4 mm, with 14 components from 7 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-C3-DEVKITM-1, from the ESP32 family. By type, the board carries 8 connectors, 2 switches, 1 IC and 1 capacitor.

It belongs with the power & battery, iot & wireless and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

A hardware Project:- Wristband

A gesture-controlled referee wristband that automates match timing in Taekwondo. Using an accelerometer and microcontroller, it detects the referee’s calibrated start and stop gestures and wirelessly updates the central timer visible to everyone. This system removes manual jury control, ensuring accurate, fair, and transparent timekeeping.

- Referee wants to stop the match. - They make a swift hand movement used traditionally in Taekwondo. - Players see this hand movement and stop. - ESSync senses this swift hand movement and sends a signal to the central timer to stop. - The central timer…

ESS Bottom: common questions

What microcontroller does the ESS Bottom use?

The ESS Bottom is built around the ESP32-C3-DEVKITM-1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the ESS Bottom PCB?

The ESS Bottom measures 70.8 × 51.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ESS Bottom?

14 components, from 7 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ESS Bottom design files?

From the shrimp-18/ESS-Wristband repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ESS Bottom design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with shrimp-18. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the ESS Bottom without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
