About the Raspberry pi pico development board

Raspberry pi pico development board is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Srushti-D-Hebbar, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 39.1 × 57.5 mm, with 48 components from 28 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the USBLC6-2SC6, ADP2108AUJ-3.3 and W25Q16JVSS. By type, the board carries 17 capacitors, 16 resistors, 4 ICs, 3 connectors, 3 diodes and 2 switches.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

Custom Raspberry Pi Pico-compatible development board designed from scratch in KiCad 10 using the RP2040 microcontroller.

A custom Raspberry Pi Pico-compatible development board built around the RP2040 microcontroller, designed from scratch in KiCad 10. The board recreates the core hardware of the official Raspberry Pi Pico—including power management, USB connectivity, status LEDs, and a debug interface—while exposing all GPIOs through edge headers.

This project was undertaken to gain hands-on experience with the complete PCB design workflow, including schematic capture, component selection, PCB layout and routing, design verification, and manufacturing file generation.

Raspberry pi pico development board: common questions

What microcontroller does the Raspberry pi pico development board use?

The Raspberry pi pico development board is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Raspberry pi pico development board?

The Raspberry pi pico development board measures 39.1 × 57.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Raspberry pi pico development board?

48 components, from 28 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Raspberry pi pico development board design files?

From the Srushti-D-Hebbar/raspberry-pi-pico-development-board repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Raspberry pi pico development board design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Srushti-D-Hebbar chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Raspberry pi pico development board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
