About the 8BitWiFiVisualizer PCB

8BitWiFiVisualizer is an open source ESP32 PCB design by stasiselectronics, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 60 × 45 mm, with 26 components from 11 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP-WROOM-02D, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the AZ1117CH-3.3TRG1 and 74HC595. By type, the board carries 8 diodes, 5 capacitors, 5 resistors, 3 ICs, 3 switches and 2 connectors.

It belongs with the iot & wireless and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

Open Source Hardware project for a minimalist WiFi enabled 8 Bit visualizer. The included firmware displays the intensity of the packet stream for a particular AP channel, but feel free to remix the hardware or write your own firmware to bring new functionality!

Here you can find all the files for the PCB design. The board is designed in KiCAD

8BitWiFiVisualizer: common questions

What microcontroller does the 8BitWiFiVisualizer use?

The 8BitWiFiVisualizer is built around the ESP-WROOM-02D, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the 8BitWiFiVisualizer PCB?

The 8BitWiFiVisualizer measures 60 × 45 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the 8BitWiFiVisualizer?

26 components, from 11 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the 8BitWiFiVisualizer design files?

From the stasiselectronics/8BitWiFiVisualizer repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the 8BitWiFiVisualizer design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which stasiselectronics chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the 8BitWiFiVisualizer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
