About the ESP32MiniDrop PCB

ESP32MiniDrop is an open source ESP32 PCB design by stasiselectronics, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 74 × 54 mm, with 25 components from 23 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the CP2102N-A02-GQFN28R, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the AZ1117CH-3.3TRG1 and ESP32-WROOM-32D. By type, the board carries 6 resistors, 5 capacitors, 4 connectors, 4 diodes, 3 ICs and 2 switches.

It belongs with the iot & wireless and usb & debug tools designs in this gallery.

From the project

ESP32 based water drop controller for photography. Controls one 12V DC Solenoid, and one DSLR Camera.

This folder contains the source files for the PCB design of the ESP32MiniDrop, along with supporting documentation. Here you can find PDFs of the schematic, an assembly drawing, and gerbers used for fabrication.

The board design is centered around the ESP32 WROOM 32D module. This has WiFi and Bluetooth included, which helps to reduce the auxillary components needed. The board has one screw terminal to attach bare wires to hook up the solenoid coil. The solenoid is controlled with a MOSFET with flyback diode attached.

ESP32MiniDrop: common questions

What microcontroller does the ESP32MiniDrop use?

The ESP32MiniDrop is built around the CP2102N-A02-GQFN28R, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the ESP32MiniDrop PCB?

The ESP32MiniDrop measures 74 × 54 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ESP32MiniDrop?

25 components, from 23 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ESP32MiniDrop design files?

From the stasiselectronics/ESP32MiniDrop repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ESP32MiniDrop design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which stasiselectronics chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the ESP32MiniDrop without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
