About the ValkDeck PCB

ValkDeck is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by SubhamSaiSamal, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 100 × 95.5 mm, with 41 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the ER_OLEDM0.91_1x-I2C, 1,1, 2,1, 1,2 and 2,2. By type, the board carries 18 diodes, 10 modules, 9 capacitors, 1 IC, 1 connector and 1 buzzer.

It belongs with the displays & leds and keyboards designs in this gallery.

I needed a better way to manage my flight sim telemetry, trigered automation workflows, and also blindly control my volume while locked into a game. I could have bought a generic macropad off Amazon for $20.

Instead, I spent 40 hours learning KiCad, routing my own custom PCB, designing an enclosure in onshape, and writing a CircuitPython program from scratch.

ValkDeck: common questions

What microcontroller does the ValkDeck use?

The ValkDeck is built around the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the ValkDeck PCB?

The ValkDeck measures 100 × 95.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ValkDeck?

41 components, from 17 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ValkDeck design files?

From the SubhamSaiSamal/ValkDeck repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ValkDeck design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with SubhamSaiSamal. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the ValkDeck without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
