About the Greaseweazle PCB

Greaseweazle is an open source STM32 PCB design by tebl, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 90 × 94 mm, with 25 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32_Blue_Pill, from the STM32 family. By type, the board carries 9 resistors, 6 connectors, 5 modules, 2 jumpers, 2 diodes and 1 transistor.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

From the project

A PCB build of Rob Smiths Amiga DrawBridge, an Arduino-based solution for reading and writing Amiga floppy disks on modern hardware. Also includes a version of Greaseweazle.

While DrawBridge was originally created to work with a specific disk format for the Commodore Amiga, the Greaseweazle will instead work with the raw magnetic flux layer from the disks. This may allow you to archive damaged, or even disks from unknown sources, to be archived for prosperity. Note that this does not necessarily mean you can use the resulting files, for that you would need a suitable emulator or similar program that have the capability of understanding the magnetic data that was originally read from the disks.

Greaseweazle: common questions

What microcontroller does the Greaseweazle use?

The Greaseweazle is built around the STM32_Blue_Pill, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Greaseweazle PCB?

The Greaseweazle measures 90 × 94 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Greaseweazle?

25 components, from 18 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Greaseweazle design files?

From the tebl/Amiga-DrawBridge repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Greaseweazle design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with tebl. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Greaseweazle without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
