About the The-SaxplayerTM PCB
The-SaxplayerTM is an open source ESP32 PCB design by tenorangesax, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 116.8 × 53.9 mm, with 19 components from 11 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the ESP32-DevKitC, from the ESP32 family. By type, the board carries 6 resistors, 5 capacitors, 4 switches, 2 connectors, 1 IC and 1 LED.
It belongs with the audio and displays & leds designs in this gallery.
From the project
This is my own sample demo project for my tutorial to soon be posted on stasis! It is a simple mp3 player/streamer using a seeed, a headphone jack, an oled, and 3 buttons/keyswitches.
WAV music player firmware for the Saxplayer board (ESP32-WROOM, SH1106/SSD1306 OLED, microSD, 3 MX switches, EC11 encoder, 3.5mm jack driven by the ESP32's internal DACs).
1. Install esptool and grab the latest ESP32 MicroPython firmware from micropython.org/download/ESP32_GENERIC/ 2. Flash it (adjust the port):
3. Copy this Firmware folder's .py files to the board with mpremote:

The-SaxplayerTM: common questions
What microcontroller does the The-SaxplayerTM use?
The The-SaxplayerTM is built around the ESP32-DevKitC, from the ESP32 family.
How big is the The-SaxplayerTM PCB?
The The-SaxplayerTM measures 116.8 × 53.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the The-SaxplayerTM?
19 components, from 11 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the The-SaxplayerTM design files?
From the tenorangesax/The-SaxplayerTM repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the The-SaxplayerTM design in my own project?
The repository has no license, so all rights stay with tenorangesax. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
Can I test firmware for the The-SaxplayerTM without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
