About the OpenBikeComputer PCB

OpenBikeComputer is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by timohueser, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 37 × 61 mm, with 10 components from 10 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the nRF54LM20A-PAXX, from the Nordic nRF family. Other key parts include the MAX-M10S, NPM1300-CAAA-R, BMA400, BMM350 and BMP581. By type, the board carries 6 ICs, 3 connectors and 1 antenna.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

Live browser demo · Documentation · Contributing

OpenBikeComputer is a fully open-source, bikepacking-focused GPS cycling computer. The main features and capabilities we are aiming for are the following (roughly in order of importance): - Reliable and simple map-based tracking and navigation - Uploading a route from the companion app should work every time (no BLE connection issues, no unreasonably low limit on point count in GPX files etc.) - No subscriptions or accounts required for any of the features of the device - Long battery life, ideally…

OpenBikeComputer: common questions

What microcontroller does the OpenBikeComputer use?

The OpenBikeComputer is built around the nRF54LM20A-PAXX, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the OpenBikeComputer PCB?

The OpenBikeComputer measures 37 × 61 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the OpenBikeComputer?

10 components, from 10 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the OpenBikeComputer design files?

From the timohueser/OpenBikeComputer repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the OpenBikeComputer design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which timohueser chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the OpenBikeComputer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
