About the CoB DIP Breakout

CoB DIP Breakout is an open source WCH CH32/CH55x PCB design by TinyTapeout, published on GitHub under the Apache-2.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 19 × 42.1 mm, with 33 components from 12 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the CH32X035G8U6, from the WCH CH32/CH55x family. Other key parts include the AP2112K-3.3TRG1. By type, the board carries 18 capacitors, 8 resistors, 2 ICs, 2 diodes, 1 connector and 1 switch.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

Tiny Tapeout breakout PCBs

The Tiny Tapeout chips are delivered on a breakout board that allows:

* the demo board to host and interact with the IC and its projects

* easily moving the ASIC to other more specialized PCBs

The PCBs are keyed such that direction of insertion onto hosts is made clear.

Versionning has been refactored such that we only have a single directory, moving forward, which will always be the latest iteration of the breakout board. Prior versions are tagged and all available here.

CoB DIP Breakout: common questions

What microcontroller does the CoB DIP Breakout use?

The CoB DIP Breakout is built around the CH32X035G8U6, from the WCH CH32/CH55x family.

How big is the CoB DIP Breakout?

The CoB DIP Breakout measures 19 × 42.1 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.561 mm thick.

How many components are on the CoB DIP Breakout?

33 components, from 12 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the CoB DIP Breakout design files?

From the TinyTapeout/breakout-pcb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the CoB DIP Breakout design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its Apache-2.0 license, which TinyTapeout chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the CoB DIP Breakout without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug WCH CH32/CH55x firmware against it before you order a PCB.
