About the Console.placed PCB

Console.placed is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by tomassasovsky, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 99.5 × 99.5 mm, with 61 components from 19 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the PICO2, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the 74AHCT125N and H11L1. By type, the board carries 23 connectors, 19 resistors, 16 capacitors, 2 ICs and 1 diode.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

Run from hardware/kicad/. generatenetlist() writes .net` into the current working directory, so running from the repo root silently drops the netlist in the wrong place while reporting success.

A netlist diff is not a design change. SKiDL assigns a random SKiDL Tag to every Part without an explicit tag=, and component tstamps derive from it. Two runs of the same version on unchanged source differ by ~190 lines — all tags, timestamps and the tool version string, with zero net changes. Pinning skidl does not fix this. Judge a run by 0…

Console.placed: common questions

What microcontroller does the Console.placed use?

The Console.placed is built around the PICO2, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Console.placed PCB?

The Console.placed measures 99.5 × 99.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Console.placed?

61 components, from 19 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Console.placed design files?

From the tomassasovsky/segno repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Console.placed design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which tomassasovsky chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Console.placed without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
