About the Segno pedal ring PCB

Segno pedal ring is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by tomassasovsky, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 80 × 80 mm, with 17 components from 13 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the 74AHCT125N, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the H11L1. By type, the board carries 5 capacitors, 4 connectors, 4 resistors, 2 ICs and 1 diode.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

SKiDL scripts that emit KiCad netlists. One per board:

Run from hardware/kicad/. generatenetlist() writes .net` into the current working directory, so running from the repo root silently drops the netlist in the wrong place while reporting success.

A netlist diff is not a design change. SKiDL assigns a random SKiDL Tag to every Part without an explicit tag=, and component tstamps derive from it. Two runs of the same version on unchanged source differ by ~190 lines — all tags, timestamps and the tool version string, with zero net changes. Pinning skidl does not fix this. Judge a run by 0…

Segno pedal ring: common questions

What microcontroller does the Segno pedal ring use?

The Segno pedal ring is built around the 74AHCT125N, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Segno pedal ring PCB?

The Segno pedal ring measures 80 × 80 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Segno pedal ring?

17 components, from 13 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Segno pedal ring design files?

From the tomassasovsky/segno repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Segno pedal ring design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which tomassasovsky chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Segno pedal ring without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
