About the Fidget PCB

Fidget is an open source FPGA PCB design by transistorfet, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 110 × 100 mm, with 98 components from 49 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ICE40HX4K-TQ144, from the FPGA family. Other key parts include the AT25SF081-SSHD, AP2112K-3.3, MIC5365-1.2YC5, MIC5365-2.5YC5 and KC2520Z16.0000C15XXK. By type, the board carries 36 capacitors, 17 ICs, 16 resistors, 11 connectors, 7 jumpers and 5 diodes.

From the project

An FPGA board that can interface to the Computie expansion bus using an iCE40HX1K

Fidget - The FPGA Widget ========================

This project is an experiment in making a board using a Lattice iCE40 FPGA in a surface mount package (LQFP-144). It has bus connectors to allow it to be hooked up to one of the Computie single board computers, to be used as either a debug monitor to replace the arduino supervisor, or as a generic expansion device for the computers. I'd also like to be able to use it more generically as well, for example as a logic analyzer, which is why it's called a widget.

Fidget: common questions

What microcontroller does the Fidget use?

The Fidget is built around the ICE40HX4K-TQ144, from the FPGA family.

How big is the Fidget PCB?

The Fidget measures 110 × 100 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Fidget?

98 components, from 49 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Fidget design files?

From the transistorfet/fidget repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Fidget design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which transistorfet chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Fidget without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug FPGA firmware against it before you order a PCB.
