About the Peripheral board

Peripheral board is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by trollectronics, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 165 × 100 mm, with 248 components from 130 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATTINY48-A, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the L78L33ACUTR, 4017, 74HC00, PSPNUB and AP1509. By type, the board carries 77 diodes, 70 switches, 36 capacitors, 36 resistors, 14 ICs and 7 connectors.

From the project

Homebrew 68040 palmtop computer

This is a work-in-progress palmtop (ish) sized clamshell laptop that we've been working on for a while.

In its current state, it boots up into a BIOS menu capable of doing a few simple things like browsing a FAT formatted SD-card, flashing its bootrom from SD-card and excuting programs from SD-card. One of the included demo programs can play .MOD music files from SD card.

Peripheral board: common questions

What microcontroller does the Peripheral board use?

The Peripheral board is built around the ATTINY48-A, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Peripheral board?

The Peripheral board measures 165 × 100 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Peripheral board?

248 components, from 130 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Peripheral board design files?

From the trollectronics/trollbook repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Peripheral board design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with trollectronics. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Peripheral board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
