About the Als311-clock PCB

Als311-clock is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by ugolnikovE, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 100 × 70 mm, with 55 components from 19 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega328-P, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 74HC595 and DS3231M. By type, the board carries 20 resistors, 15 capacitors, 5 transistors, 4 ICs, 2 connectors and 2 diodes.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

Desktop clock on a Soviet ALS311 LED display, powered by an ATmega328P (bare-metal C)

A clock built around the Soviet ALS311 LED display — I made it as a gift for my wife. It runs on an ATmega328P with firmware written in C. The firmware uses an asynchronous model: all drivers and HAL functions operate without blocking the main loop.

Prebuilt firmware and fabrication files (Gerbers, BOM) are on the Releases page.

Full multi-sheet schematic: docs/schematic.pdf. KiCad sources are in hardware.

Als311-clock: common questions

What microcontroller does the Als311-clock use?

The Als311-clock is built around the ATmega328-P, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Als311-clock PCB?

The Als311-clock measures 100 × 70 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Als311-clock?

55 components, from 19 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Als311-clock design files?

From the ugolnikovE/als311-clock repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Als311-clock design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which ugolnikovE chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Als311-clock without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
