About the Intercom PCB

Intercom is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by ukmaker, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 100 × 100 mm, with 82 components from 42 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA328-P, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the LM386, MCP6002, MCP1700T, LE33CZ and RFM12B. By type, the board carries 27 resistors, 26 capacitors, 7 diodes, 6 ICs, 5 connectors and 5 switches.

It belongs with the rf & radio and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

Wireless intercom implemented using an Atmega328P and an RFM12B radio module

What Is it? ================== This project implements a wireless intercom system using the RFM12B radio module and the Atmega 328P microcontroller running the Arduino environment.

Why Does it Exist? =================== I wanted a wireless intercom so I could stop shouting up the stairs at the kids.

The consensus on the web was that the RFM12B is not suitable for speech: challenge!

Intercom: common questions

What microcontroller does the Intercom use?

The Intercom is built around the ATMEGA328-P, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Intercom PCB?

The Intercom measures 100 × 100 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Intercom?

82 components, from 42 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Intercom design files?

From the ukmaker/Intercom repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Intercom design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which ukmaker chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Intercom without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
