About the Shuttle PCB

Shuttle is an open source ESP32 PCB design by uli, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 50 × 50 mm, with 19 components from 14 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-WROOM, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the AMS1117. By type, the board carries 8 connectors, 5 resistors, 3 capacitors, 2 ICs and 1 switch.

It belongs with the iot & wireless and audio designs in this gallery.

Schematics and PCB layout for the BASIC Engine home computer

The BASIC Engine is a very low-cost single-board home computer with advanced 2D color graphics and sound capabilities, roughly comparable to late-1980s or early-1990s computers and video game consoles. It can be built at home without special skills or tools and using readily available components for under 10 Euros in parts, or mass-produced for even less.

This repository contains KiCAD schematics and the PCB layout. Gerber files for ordering PCBs can be found in the release section.

Shuttle: common questions

What microcontroller does the Shuttle use?

The Shuttle is built around the ESP32-WROOM, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Shuttle PCB?

The Shuttle measures 50 × 50 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Shuttle?

19 components, from 14 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Shuttle design files?

From the uli/basicengine-pcb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Shuttle design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with uli. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Shuttle without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
