About the Pcb

Pcb is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by UPM-SPV, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 0.7 × 0.7 mm, with 40 components from 26 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the nRF54L15-QFAA, from the Nordic nRF family. Other key parts include the SGP40, SHTC3, VEML6035 and IM70D122. By type, the board carries 19 capacitors, 7 resistors, 5 ICs, 5 inductors, 1 transistor and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the sensors and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

Coin-cell powered BLE weather station with nRF54L15. Measuring temperature, humidity, air quality, luminosity, and noise.

This is the PCB I designed for my undergrad thesis. It's a four-layer board consisting of an nRF54L15, multiple environmental sensors, an LED, and a button, all powered by a single CR2450 battery on the back.

- VEML6035: Light sensor by Vishay. - SHTC3: Temperature and humidity by Sensirion. - SGP40: A VOC Index (not PPM) sensor also by Sensirion. This one's particularly power-hungry, so it's power-gated using a high-side P-FET. It also doesn't actually provide volatile compound concentration measurements, but a more abstract "VOC Index" from 0 to 500, so keep that in mind. - IM70D122: Noise…

Pcb: common questions

What microcontroller does the Pcb use?

The Pcb is built around the nRF54L15-QFAA, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Pcb?

The Pcb measures 0.7 × 0.7 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.64716 mm thick.

How many components are on the Pcb?

40 components, from 26 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Pcb design files?

From the UPM-SPV/pcb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Pcb design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which UPM-SPV chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Pcb without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
