About the Smart plants breakout rev1

Smart plants breakout rev1 is an open source ESP32 PCB design by vektorious, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 48.3 × 48.3 mm, with 23 components from 19 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-ESP32-C6, from the ESP32 family. By type, the board carries 11 connectors, 6 resistors, 2 capacitors, 1 IC, 1 transistor and 1 switch.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

Two active PCB designs are maintained, one per supported controller board. Both route sensors to the same GPIO numbers, so no firmware changes are needed between variants.

Smart plants breakout rev1: common questions

What microcontroller does the Smart plants breakout rev1 use?

The Smart plants breakout rev1 is built around the XIAO-ESP32-C6, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Smart plants breakout rev1?

The Smart plants breakout rev1 measures 48.3 × 48.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Smart plants breakout rev1?

23 components, from 19 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Smart plants breakout rev1 design files?

From the vektorious/hpi_smart_plants repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Smart plants breakout rev1 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which vektorious chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Smart plants breakout rev1 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
