About the Lethe PCB

Lethe is an open source ESP32 PCB design by VulcanWM, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 84.8 × 97.8 mm, with 15 components from 11 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-ESP32-S3-Plus-SMD, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the BMI270 and MAX98357A. By type, the board carries 4 capacitors, 3 ICs, 2 switches, 1 connector, 1 speaker and 1 LED.

It belongs with the audio, displays & leds and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

Lethe is an educational device aimed at reducing student's screen times by using a speaker to ask questions / convey informations, and using tilts to get user input.

I made it because high screen time is a problem I face myself, and this device means I can move around while studying. I also wanted to experiment and see if listening rather than reading helps to remember stuff more or not.

Lethe: common questions

What microcontroller does the Lethe use?

The Lethe is built around the XIAO-ESP32-S3-Plus-SMD, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Lethe PCB?

The Lethe measures 84.8 × 97.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Lethe?

15 components, from 11 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Lethe design files?

From the VulcanWM/lethe repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Lethe design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with VulcanWM. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Lethe without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
