About the Ble stepper motor analyzer PCB

Ble stepper motor analyzer is an open source ESP32 PCB design by zapta, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 38.5 × 43 mm, with 58 components from 44 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-WROOM-32U-N4, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the CP2102N-A01-GQFN28, AMS1117-3.3, C2684892 and CC6920BSO-5A. By type, the board carries 20 resistors, 19 capacitors, 6 ICs, 6 diodes, 5 connectors and 1 transistor.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, displays & leds and robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

From the project

A low cost stepper motor analyzer that uses wireless BLE link to display the data in real time on a Windows/Mac/Linux PC.

A short video of the app is available here https://vimeo.com/798169140

The BLE Stepper Motor Analyzer ('the analyzer') is a low-cost, open source system that analyzes stepper motor signals and display the the data in real time on a computer screen. The system includes two parts:

1. The Stepper Motor Probe ('the device'). This is a small electronic board that monitors the currents through the stepper motor wires, extracts information such as steps, and speed, and transmits the data via Bluetooth BLE.

Ble stepper motor analyzer: common questions

What microcontroller does the Ble stepper motor analyzer use?

The Ble stepper motor analyzer is built around the ESP32-WROOM-32U-N4, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Ble stepper motor analyzer PCB?

The Ble stepper motor analyzer measures 38.5 × 43 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Ble stepper motor analyzer?

58 components, from 44 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Ble stepper motor analyzer design files?

From the zapta/ble_stepper_motor_analyzer repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Ble stepper motor analyzer design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with zapta. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Ble stepper motor analyzer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
