About the Circular2 PCB

Circular2 is an open source PCB design by aewallin, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 25 × 25 mm, with 30 components from 19 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the LT3042xMSE, LT3093xMSE, OPA859xDSG and BUF602xDBV. By type, the board carries 13 capacitors, 6 resistors, 4 ICs, 3 diodes, 2 connectors and 1 inductor.

It belongs with the audio and test & measurement designs in this gallery.

From the project

Photodiode transimpedance amplifier, on a one inch diameter circular PCB

TIASim can be used to predict gain, noise, and bandwidth using different op-amps, transimpedance-gains, etc. Initial results show that capacitive loading on the MMCX connector, when connecting a coaxial cable to Spectrum Analyzer or Oscilloscope, plays a role. For un-buffered op-amps TIASim predictions agree with measurements when op-amp GBWP is 'de-rated' slightly - probably due to the capacitive load on the output. Latest PCB versions use a buffer/cable-driver BUF602 to isolate the sensitive transimpedance amplifier from output loading.

Circular2: common questions

How big is the Circular2 PCB?

The Circular2 measures 25 × 25 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Circular2?

30 components, from 19 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Circular2 design files?

From the aewallin/One-Inch-Photodetector repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Circular2 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with aewallin. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
