About the Embeddster PCB

Embeddster is an open source ESP32 PCB design by alheir, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 117.4 × 63 mm, with 36 components from 15 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-DEVKIT-V1, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the PLACA_CAN_V20190517 and 74HC595. By type, the board carries 9 resistors, 8 connectors, 7 diodes, 6 capacitors, 4 ICs and 2 jumpers.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

Embeddster is a platform for the 25.27 - Sistemas Embebidos course at ITBA (Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires), using an ESP32 to test and assist with TPs. It connects to TP hardware via a custom PCB and interfaces with a PC GUI for testing, development, and evaluation.

Embeddster: common questions

What microcontroller does the Embeddster use?

The Embeddster is built around the ESP32-DEVKIT-V1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Embeddster PCB?

The Embeddster measures 117.4 × 63 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Embeddster?

36 components, from 15 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Embeddster design files?

From the alheir/embeddster repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Embeddster design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which alheir chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Embeddster without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
