About the GameBoy-Mp3-Plater PCB

GameBoy-Mp3-Plater is an open source ESP32 PCB design by amkhan2009, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 52.8 × 68.5 mm, with 40 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-WROOM-32D, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the PCM5102APWR, TP4056 and AMS1117-3.3. By type, the board carries 14 capacitors, 12 resistors, 6 connectors, 4 ICs and 4 switches.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, audio and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

Portable ESP 32 based MP3 Player

A compact, self-contained portable audio player built around the ESP32, featuring a colour TFT display, USB-C LiPo charging, stereo headphone output, and mono speaker output. Supports MP3, WAV, and FLAC playback from a MicroSD card.

Designed in KiCad 9.0.6. See hardware/MP3.kicadsch`.

2-layer board. See hardware/MP3.kicadpcb`.

Battery charges at 1A via TP4056 when USB-C is connected. CC1/CC2 pull-down resistors (5.1kΩ) negotiate 5V from the host without requiring USB PD.

GameBoy-Mp3-Plater: common questions

What microcontroller does the GameBoy-Mp3-Plater use?

The GameBoy-Mp3-Plater is built around the ESP32-WROOM-32D, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the GameBoy-Mp3-Plater PCB?

The GameBoy-Mp3-Plater measures 52.8 × 68.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the GameBoy-Mp3-Plater?

40 components, from 18 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the GameBoy-Mp3-Plater design files?

From the amkhan2009/GameBoy-Mp3-Plater repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the GameBoy-Mp3-Plater design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which amkhan2009 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the GameBoy-Mp3-Plater without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
