About the Battmanpi PCB

Battmanpi is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by andrewerrington, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 65 × 56 mm, with 76 components from 29 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Raspberry Pi, from the Raspberry Pi family. Other key parts include the 74HCT4040, 74HCT125, LM393, LM358 and 7805. By type, the board carries 45 resistors, 7 connectors, 7 capacitors, 5 ICs, 4 test points and 3 transistors.

From the project

Redesigning Stefan Vorkoetter's BattMan II for Raspberry Pi.

BattMan II is a computer-controlled battery manager which can be used to charge and discharge common types of rechargeable batteries.

The original project used a Borland C++ program under Windows to drive the hardware through the PC LPT port. These days LPT ports are rare, and no-one has updated the software to use another interface method such as a USB GPIO module.

Battmanpi: common questions

What microcontroller does the Battmanpi use?

The Battmanpi is built around the Raspberry Pi, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the Battmanpi PCB?

The Battmanpi measures 65 × 56 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Battmanpi?

76 components, from 29 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Battmanpi design files?

From the andrewerrington/battmanpi repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Battmanpi design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which andrewerrington chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Battmanpi without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
