About the Hermes PCB

Hermes is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by AYUSH-pro-grammer, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 38 × 53 mm, with 8 components from 6 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the DM-OLED096-636 and MPU-6050. By type, the board carries 3 ICs, 3 capacitors and 2 resistors.

It belongs with the displays & leds and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

For my Hermes project, I made a compact handheld motion detector based on the MPU6050 IMU, a XIAO RP2040 microcontroller, and a 0.96" OLED screen. The board reads acceleration and rotational values of the sensor and outputs it on the screen.

I decided to use the MPU6050 because I wanted to know more about IMUs and how to make a device which detects motion. Also, since the MPU6050 communicates using I²C protocol, it helped me understand such concepts as pull-up resistors, datasheets, decoupling capacitors, and PCB designing.

Hermes: common questions

What microcontroller does the Hermes use?

The Hermes is built around the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Hermes PCB?

The Hermes measures 38 × 53 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Hermes?

8 components, from 6 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Hermes design files?

From the AYUSH-pro-grammer/hermes repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Hermes design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with AYUSH-pro-grammer. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Hermes without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
