About the BarSync PCB

BarSync is an open source ESP32 PCB design by barna81, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-NC-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 95 × 60 mm, with 16 components from 13 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32_DevKit_V1_DOIT_30GPIOs, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the 6N139 and SN7406N. By type, the board carries 6 connectors, 4 resistors, 2 ICs, 2 capacitors, 1 module and 1 diode.

It belongs with the audio and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

Midi Clock Bar Counter & Visualizer

BarSync is an ESP32-based device that receives an incoming MIDI clock and displays bar position, beat progress, tempo, and elapsed play time on a 128×64 OLED display.

BarSync - Desktop version (this device) - Current firmware: 1.3.2 Improvements: introduced a browser-based firmware flasher — firmware can now be flashed straight from the browser (Chrome/Edge), no Arduino IDE needed, see the "Flashing the Firmware" section below; no functional firmware changes - Firmware: 1.3.1 Improvements: SCROLL mode with a much clearer sense of motion (stripe pattern + marker halo), extended bar/playtime…

BarSync: common questions

What microcontroller does the BarSync use?

The BarSync is built around the ESP32_DevKit_V1_DOIT_30GPIOs, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the BarSync PCB?

The BarSync measures 95 × 60 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the BarSync?

16 components, from 13 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the BarSync design files?

From the barna81/BarSync repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the BarSync design in my own project?

It is published under CC-BY-NC-4.0, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the BarSync without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
