Open source EtherCAT slaves for machine tools running LinuxCNC: hardware, firmware and tooling.

Open source EtherCAT slaves for machine tools running LinuxCNC: hardware, firmware and tooling.

- A family of standard-compliant EtherCAT slaves for CNC retrofits: motion (step/dir, encoders, probe), digital and analog I/O, spindle control, Modbus gateway. - Works with any EtherCAT master; developed and tested against LinuxCNC with the IgH master (lcec). - Firmware builds on the LinuxCNC PC itself with a free toolchain (arm-none-eabi-gcc, CMake) and updates over EtherCAT (FoE). - Hardware designed in KiCad, published in full.

Bornier: common questions

What microcontroller does the Bornier use?

The Bornier is built around the STM32H523VET6, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Bornier PCB?

The Bornier measures 150 × 107.5 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Bornier?

506 components, from 81 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Bornier design files?

From the bornier-dev/bornier repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Bornier design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with bornier-dev. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Bornier without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
