About the Diy ert PCB

Diy ert is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by CainPatel, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 127 × 117.5 mm, with 44 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ARDUINO_NANO_V3.X, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the ADS1115IDGS, AD620, L298N, LM358 and 74HC595. By type, the board carries 18 capacitors, 9 resistors, 7 ICs, 4 connectors and 1 module.

It belongs with the test & measurement designs in this gallery.

From the project

A $150 four-electrode earth resistivity meter (Wenner array): Arduino, AD620, ADS1115. Documented failure-first as an engineering log.

KiCad 10.0.5 sources for the diy-ert board.

Open diy-ert.kicadpro in KiCad 10 or newer. Every symbol and footprint comes from the standard KiCad libraries, so nothing else needs installing. The .kicadprl file (per-machine view settings) and the .history/ backup directory that KiCad creates are ignored by git.

The project was drawn under the default name Untitled and renamed here; the rename touched only the project-name strings in the files, and the netlist, ERC, DRC, and gerbers exported from the renamed project match the originals.

Diy ert: common questions

What microcontroller does the Diy ert use?

The Diy ert is built around the ARDUINO_NANO_V3.X, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Diy ert PCB?

The Diy ert measures 127 × 117.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Diy ert?

44 components, from 18 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Diy ert design files?

From the CainPatel/diy-ert repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Diy ert design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which CainPatel chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Diy ert without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
