About the 4Mem board v2

4Mem board v2 is an open source PIC PCB design by CatspersCoffee, published on GitHub under the Custom license license. It is a board measuring 150.4 × 75.2 mm, with 86 components from 28 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the PIC18F2520-28QFN, from the PIC family. Other key parts include the XC6SLX45-2FGG484C, DDR3_DIMM_240PIN, XCF08P-VO48/TSOP48, LM1117MP-1.8 and AZ1084. By type, the board carries 48 capacitors, 13 resistors, 11 ICs, 8 connectors, 4 diodes and 1 transistor.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery, and the repository also holds 1 earlier revision of it.

From the project

S-100 bus boards designed and built: Z80 and 80386 CPU cards, SRAM/DRAM memory, CPLD/FPGA I/O and SPI boards, an 18-slot backplane and bus terminator. KiCad designs with Xilinx XC9500 CPLD and Spartan-6 FPGA logic, with the original design history replayed in git.

A Spartan-6 XC6SLX45 + DDR3 DIMM mezzanine for the x86 32bit Memory Adapter Board. It plugs onto the adapter's P8/P9 headers and isn't an S-100 card itself (2015).

- Board: 150.4 x 75.2 mm, rounded corners, four corner mounting holes, 6 copper layers (Top, GND, Sig1, Sig2, POWER, Bottom). - KiCad (2013-07-07 BZR 4022)-stable.

There is no FPGA project for this board.

4Mem board v2: common questions

What microcontroller does the 4Mem board v2 use?

The 4Mem board v2 is built around the PIC18F2520-28QFN, from the PIC family.

How big is the 4Mem board v2?

The 4Mem board v2 measures 150.4 × 75.2 mm and is 1.6002 mm thick.

How many components are on the 4Mem board v2?

86 components, from 28 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the 4Mem board v2 design files?

From the CatspersCoffee/S100-Boards repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the 4Mem board v2 design in my own project?

It is published under Custom license, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the 4Mem board v2 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug PIC firmware against it before you order a PCB.
