About the S100 B1FU PCB

S100 B1FU is an open source PIC PCB design by CatspersCoffee, published on GitHub under the Custom license license. It is a board measuring 254 × 134.1 mm, with 164 components from 64 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the PIC18F1330, from the PIC family. Other key parts include the LDO_REG_7805, LM1086CS, ^^74LS541, 74HC245 and ^^74LV244. By type, the board carries 50 resistors, 31 capacitors, 19 ICs, 17 diodes, 11 connectors and 9 transistors.

It belongs with the usb & debug tools and retro computing designs in this gallery.

From the project

S-100 bus boards designed and built: Z80 and 80386 CPU cards, SRAM/DRAM memory, CPLD/FPGA I/O and SPI boards, an 18-slot backplane and bus terminator. KiCad designs with Xilinx XC9500 CPLD and Spartan-6 FPGA logic, with the original design history replayed in git.

An S-100 board with a USB serial port (16550 + FT232R), four TMA* bus-master request lines, and four SPI flash chips. The flash chips can be loaded from a PC over USB and then read from the S-100 side (2014–2015).

The idea is fast development turnaround: 1. Program the SPI flash chips from a PC through the CH341A. 2. Flip the RUN/FLASH switch. 3. An S-100 monitor/loader reads the flash contents into RAM through the CPLD's I/O ports.

S100 B1FU: common questions

What microcontroller does the S100 B1FU use?

The S100 B1FU is built around the PIC18F1330, from the PIC family.

How big is the S100 B1FU PCB?

The S100 B1FU measures 254 × 134.1 mm and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the S100 B1FU?

164 components, from 64 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the S100 B1FU design files?

From the CatspersCoffee/S100-Boards repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the S100 B1FU design in my own project?

It is published under Custom license, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the S100 B1FU without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug PIC firmware against it before you order a PCB.
