About the Board

Board is an open source PCB design by CatspersCoffee, published on GitHub under the Custom license license. It is a board measuring 254 × 134.6 mm, with 163 components from 52 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the Z80, 74LS373, 74LS153, 74LS157 and 74LS32. By type, the board carries 48 capacitors, 46 ICs, 21 resistors, 10 connectors, 7 transistors and 7 diodes.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

From the project

S-100 bus boards designed and built: Z80 and 80386 CPU cards, SRAM/DRAM memory, CPLD/FPGA I/O and SPI boards, an 18-slot backplane and bus terminator. KiCad designs with Xilinx XC9500 CPLD and Spartan-6 FPGA logic, with the original design history replayed in git.

An S-100 bus-master CPU card built around a Zilog Z80, in four revisions (silkscreen REV 1.0 to REV 5.0), 2014–2016. From REV 4.0 on, most of the bus control logic is in a Xilinx XC9572 CPLD.

Left: REV 4.0 (v4/). Right: REV 5.0 (v5/).

- Board: 254.0 x 134.6 mm (10.0 x 5.3 in), two layers, the same outline on all revisions. - Switches and jumpers (v5): DIP switches "RAM WAIT", "I/O WAIT" and "ROM WAIT". SW1 "RESET". K1 "ROM LOCK". P6 "CLK SEL". P7 "NMI ENABLE". P5 "XILINX CABLE" (JTAG). P11 is the CPLD I/O header. - LEDs (v5): "Z80 BUS MASTER", "ROM SELECT", "WAIT", "POWER", and D4–D7, D9…

Board: common questions

How big is the Board?

The Board measures 254 × 134.6 mm and is 1.6002 mm thick.

How many components are on the Board?

163 components, from 52 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Board design files?

From the CatspersCoffee/S100-Boards repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Board design in my own project?

It is published under Custom license, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.
