ESP32-S3 KiCad hardware and bring-up firmware for a self-watering flower pot prototype

Custom ESP32-S3 controller hardware and bring-up firmware for a self-watering flower pot prototype.

This repository contains the KiCad design files, generated fabrication outputs, mechanical STEP exports, board renders, BOM notes, bring-up reports, and the first safe test firmware used on the assembled Board A prototype.

- Board A cost-down prototype has been fabricated and hand assembled for bring-up. - USB-C power, 3.3 V regulator, ESP32-S3 native USB flashing, status LEDs, moisture ADC, and pump-gate bring-up checks have been tested. - Current firmware is a supervised pump-test build…

SmartWateringFlowerPot: common questions

What microcontroller does the SmartWateringFlowerPot use?

The SmartWateringFlowerPot is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N8, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the SmartWateringFlowerPot PCB?

The SmartWateringFlowerPot measures 61.9 × 80.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the SmartWateringFlowerPot?

25 components, from 24 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the SmartWateringFlowerPot design files?

From the Chrissyuh/SmartWateringFlowerPot repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the SmartWateringFlowerPot design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Chrissyuh chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the SmartWateringFlowerPot without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
