About the Rp2040-custom devboard PCB

Rp2040-custom devboard is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Coderbeeko, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 21 × 51 mm, with 36 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the MCP1700X-330XXTT, W25Q16JVZPIQ TR and SK6812MINI-E. By type, the board carries 18 capacitors, 8 resistors, 4 ICs, 4 connectors, 1 crystal and 1 switch.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts, displays & leds and robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

From the project

Custom RP2040 development board designed in KiCad with USB-C, onboard flash, SWD debugging, and a WS2812B RGB status LED. Built to learn embedded hardware design and PCB development.

A custom RP2040-based development board designed in KiCad as my first PCB project.

This board is inspired by the Raspberry Pi Pico architecture, but I made my own design decisions and added an SK6812MINI-E programmable RGB LED. For me, this project served as a learning experience to gain skills schematic design, PCB layout, component selection, signal integrity, footprint verification, and preparing hardware for manufacturing, and also as a fun way to spend my summer building my first ever PCB.

Rp2040-custom devboard: common questions

What microcontroller does the Rp2040-custom devboard use?

The Rp2040-custom devboard is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Rp2040-custom devboard PCB?

The Rp2040-custom devboard measures 21 × 51 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Rp2040-custom devboard?

36 components, from 18 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Rp2040-custom devboard design files?

From the Coderbeeko/rp2040-custom-devboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Rp2040-custom devboard design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Coderbeeko chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Rp2040-custom devboard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
