About the Eurorack-DIGI PCB

Eurorack-DIGI is an open source FPGA PCB design by cookiemonsternz, published on GitHub. It is a 6-layer board measuring 40 × 100 mm, with 127 components from 52 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ICE40UP5K-SG48ITR, from the FPGA family. Other key parts include the ES8311, APS6404L-SQN-SN, FT4222HQ, TL072 and AMS1117-3.3. By type, the board carries 57 capacitors, 30 resistors, 13 diodes, 9 ICs, 7 connectors and 4 switches.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

From the project

DIGI utilises an ice40UP5K fpga chip, featuring 5280 luts and a 48Mhz clock. This is accompanied by a USB-SPI interface for easy programming. The board includes 64Mbits of PSRAM via single channel SPI and 256kbits of flash EEPROM.

This does kind of act as a counterpart to REV, but with an FPGA as to an MCU. This provides a bit more flexibility (and performance) and also provides a lot more memory to play with.

Eurorack-DIGI: common questions

What microcontroller does the Eurorack-DIGI use?

The Eurorack-DIGI is built around the ICE40UP5K-SG48ITR, from the FPGA family.

How big is the Eurorack-DIGI PCB?

The Eurorack-DIGI measures 40 × 100 mm, has 6 copper layers and is 1.599978 mm thick.

How many components are on the Eurorack-DIGI?

127 components, from 52 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Eurorack-DIGI design files?

From the cookiemonsternz/Eurorack-DIGI repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Eurorack-DIGI design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with cookiemonsternz. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Eurorack-DIGI without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug FPGA firmware against it before you order a PCB.
