About the Daughter board

Daughter board is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by cookiemonsternz, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 46 × 42.8 mm, with 34 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the NCP1117-3.3_SOT223, W25Q128JVS, ABM8-272-T3 and MCP23017. By type, the board carries 16 capacitors, 8 resistors, 6 ICs and 4 connectors.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

Lens Board is a custom mechanical keyboard, with a modified 1800's layout, more physical input methods (sliders, scrolly wheel, touchscreen) and an inbuilt, physical audio visualizer.

My inspiration for this project was my Hackpad project, which I had a ton of fun designing and building. I wanted to make another thing to do with keyboards, and this was a great opportunity to do so.

Daughter board: common questions

What microcontroller does the Daughter board use?

The Daughter board is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Daughter board?

The Daughter board measures 46 × 42.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Daughter board?

34 components, from 17 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Daughter board design files?

From the cookiemonsternz/lensboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Daughter board design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with cookiemonsternz. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Daughter board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
