From the project

StratoSoar is an engineering project that aims to be able to fly a glider (dropped from a high-altitude balloon), down to any selected coordinates.

TL:DR: The StratoSoar project is a low-cost, lightweight Unmanned Aerial Vechile (UAV) designed for deployment from a weather balloon at various altitudes, aiming for autonomous and efficient flight to designated GPS coordinates. By offering a more affordable, compact, and lightweight alternative to conventional UAVs, StratoSoar aims to empower educators, researchers, and hobbyists with an accessible platform for exploration and experimentation.

StratoSoar-MK2.2: common questions

What microcontroller does the StratoSoar-MK2.2 use?

The StratoSoar-MK2.2 is built around the ATSAMD21G18A-A, from the Microchip SAM family.

How big is the StratoSoar-MK2.2 PCB?

The StratoSoar-MK2.2 measures 42 × 84 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 0.8 mm thick.

How many components are on the StratoSoar-MK2.2?

107 components, from 60 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the StratoSoar-MK2.2 design files?

From the crnicholson/StratoSoar-MK2 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the StratoSoar-MK2.2 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with crnicholson. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the StratoSoar-MK2.2 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Microchip SAM firmware against it before you order a PCB.
