About the Seven Segment Main Board

Seven Segment Main Board is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by cscott, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 33.8 × 131 mm, with 70 components from 23 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the W25Q16JVUXIQ, IS31FL3729-QFLS4, VDMR10A1, C455045 and SIP32431DR3-T1GE3. By type, the board carries 27 capacitors, 14 ICs, 14 resistors, 8 LEDs, 5 diodes and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

7-segment display input module for Framework 16

This module is based on the "34x9 LED Matrix" example from https://github.com/FrameworkComputer/InputModules and is powered by a Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller.

A short video demo of first light from the prototype is at https://youtu.be/MXg15aWYOqI

More discussion of this project can be found in the Framework forums.

Seven Segment Main Board: common questions

What microcontroller does the Seven Segment Main Board use?

The Seven Segment Main Board is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Seven Segment Main Board?

The Seven Segment Main Board measures 33.8 × 131 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 0.8 mm thick.

How many components are on the Seven Segment Main Board?

70 components, from 23 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Seven Segment Main Board design files?

From the cscott/SevenSegmentInputModule repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Seven Segment Main Board design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with cscott. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Seven Segment Main Board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
