About the Robot vacuum PCB

Robot vacuum is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by dduarteCE, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 99.5 × 99.5 mm, with 42 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Raspberry_Pi_4, from the Raspberry Pi family. Other key parts include the PC817, L298N, PAM8403D and MPU-6050. By type, the board carries 14 resistors, 10 ICs, 5 connectors, 5 diodes, 3 modules and 2 battery holders.

It belongs with the audio, robotics & motion and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

Embedded Linux robotic vacuum system built with Yocto on Raspberry Pi 4, featuring autonomous navigation, audio playback, and remote control through a web interface.

This repository contains the complete system for an autonomous robot vacuum built on a Raspberry Pi 4, using a custom Linux image created with Yocto. The system includes autonomous navigation, low-level hardware control, a secure web interface for remote control, and audio playback.

For a detailed description of the software design and Yocto image decisions, see the Design Document (DI). For a summary of the technologies used, see the Continuous Learning Document (AC).

Robot vacuum: common questions

What microcontroller does the Robot vacuum use?

The Robot vacuum is built around the Raspberry_Pi_4, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the Robot vacuum PCB?

The Robot vacuum measures 99.5 × 99.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Robot vacuum?

42 components, from 18 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Robot vacuum design files?

From the dduarteCE/Robot-vacuum repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Robot vacuum design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which dduarteCE chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Robot vacuum without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
