About the ESP-32 WLED-Controller PCB

ESP-32 WLED-Controller is an open source ESP32 PCB design by der-pw, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 59.5 × 31.2 mm, with 19 components from 14 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-WROOM-32, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the AMS1117-3.3 and 74LVC1G125. By type, the board carries 6 resistors, 5 capacitors, 3 ICs, 2 transistors, 2 switches and 1 diode.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

ESP-32 based controller for WLED or other neopixel things

This is like an evolution of my ESP-12-WLED_Controller. It based on my ESP-12 Controller, so you can find also all the necessary information about MOSFETs, etc. there as well.

The version with ESP32 is more powerful and enables features like Sound Reactive https://github.com/atuline/WLED with significantly better performance than the ESP2866. Also you can find here the Sound Reactive Addon for this controller. The PCB size has just slightly increased, and the controller can still fit into small projects. To have a clean design and ensure the LED strip works with a 5V data level, I used a…

ESP-32 WLED-Controller: common questions

What microcontroller does the ESP-32 WLED-Controller use?

The ESP-32 WLED-Controller is built around the ESP32-WROOM-32, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the ESP-32 WLED-Controller PCB?

The ESP-32 WLED-Controller measures 59.5 × 31.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ESP-32 WLED-Controller?

19 components, from 14 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ESP-32 WLED-Controller design files?

From the der-pw/ESP-32_WLED-Controller repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ESP-32 WLED-Controller design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with der-pw. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the ESP-32 WLED-Controller without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
