About the Trigger seq PCB

Trigger seq is an open source PIC PCB design by elmegil, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 74.5 × 104.6 mm, with 60 components from 20 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the PIC16F15345, from the PIC family. Other key parts include the LM78L05_TO92, LM393, 4051 and TL072. By type, the board carries 22 resistors, 11 capacitors, 9 diodes, 6 ICs, 5 transistors and 5 connectors.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

From the project

gator ("gate-er") trigger sequencer eurorack module

"Hook's Gator" trigger (gate) sequencer.

Controls: - tempo - gate width (need to state range) - step count - swing (50% - no swing, to 70%) - run/stop switch and gate input - forward/backward (need to test backward with swing) switch and gate input - reset button and gate input - clock in + clock out (external clock is reflected on the output and overrides internal tempo) - 1x16 or 2x8 operation -- in 1x16 both outputs reflect the same - each step has a switch that indicates if there should be a gate out on that step or not.

Trigger seq: common questions

What microcontroller does the Trigger seq use?

The Trigger seq is built around the PIC16F15345, from the PIC family.

How big is the Trigger seq PCB?

The Trigger seq measures 74.5 × 104.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Trigger seq?

60 components, from 20 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Trigger seq design files?

From the elmegil/gator repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Trigger seq design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which elmegil chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Trigger seq without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug PIC firmware against it before you order a PCB.
