About the Intro to-CAD-2026 PCB

Intro to-CAD-2026 is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by frohro, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 100 × 100 mm, with 316 components from 105 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the CJC4334H, PCM1808PWR, MS5351M, OPA1612AxD and L78M05ABDT-TR. By type, the board carries 102 capacitors, 74 jumpers, 63 resistors, 19 test points, 16 connectors and 12 ICs.

From the project

This is the class project for the EE/CPTR section of Intro-to-CAD in 2026.

Open Hardware/Intro-to-CAD-2026.kicadpro`.

Includes dual-ADC options (PCM1808 preferred; CJC5340 retained). Instructor Hardware/Frohne/ libs remain because the merged schematic references them.

Preferred firmware entry point once restored: firmware/2026v0.2/` (PCM1808 48/96). CJC and Multi trees are kept for research even if PCM1808 is preferred on the bench.

Intro to-CAD-2026: common questions

What microcontroller does the Intro to-CAD-2026 use?

The Intro to-CAD-2026 is built around the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Intro to-CAD-2026 PCB?

The Intro to-CAD-2026 measures 100 × 100 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Intro to-CAD-2026?

316 components, from 105 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Intro to-CAD-2026 design files?

From the frohro/Intro-to-CAD-2026 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Intro to-CAD-2026 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with frohro. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Intro to-CAD-2026 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
